Hi, I’m Ya-Shi Duhon, the founder of Rise to Renew Therapy. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate (LPC-Associate), supervised by Joey Santos III, PhD, LPC-S and a Sex Therapist. My educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Administration of Justice, a Master of Science in Psychology, and a Master of Education in Counseling and Development. This diverse academic journey has equipped me with a well-rounded understanding of human behavior, relationships, and personal growth.

I became a therapist because I have always been deeply fascinated by the intricate ways our identities, relationships, and experiences shape us. As I delved into the field, I realized how often topics like intimacy, sexuality, and relational challenges are left undiscussed due to stigma. Becoming a sex therapist felt like a calling—to help clients embrace their full selves, heal from shame, and foster fulfilling, authentic connections.

My approach to therapy is rooted in evidence-based theories and practices such as Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Narrative Therapy, and Systems Theory. These approaches help me guide clients in exploring their emotions, rewriting unhelpful narratives, and understanding the broader context of their relationships and identities. I also integrate a sex-positive and trauma-informed lens to create a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can feel truly seen and understood.

I started Rise to Renew Therapy with the vision of creating a supportive space for individuals and relationships to thrive, especially those from marginalized communities. My practice centers on helping people navigate issues related to intimacy, connection, and identity while addressing the unique challenges faced by BIPOC, LGBTQ+, polyamorous, and kink/BDSM communities.
